Getting started
Each month, you will receive:
a field journal entry of hand-illustrated notes,
a letter from a field journalist describing an encounter with the subject of the month,
an information page about how the subject interacts with its own ecosystem,
an information page about how humans have interacted with this organism,
a step-by-step drawing instructional sheet on how to draw the subject,
and two to three journaling stickers to include in your own field notes
For the content, we are primarily focusing on botany and plant sciences with occasional features of insects and critters that wander (sometimes quite literally!) onto the pages.
Field journaling has played a major role in the way that we've viewed the world and our part in it. We believe that observational science can guide us towards a slower, more thoughtful, kinder, and more sustainable way of life.
Our biggest hope for The Field Journals is that it will help children first to notice the natural systems around them, then to understand and appreciate the plants and animals that make up the environment, and finally to value and protect the natural world.
We're writing it with ages seven to fifteen in mind, but younger children (and even adults) will enjoy it, too, depending on their level of interest in nature.
The journal is a self-contained interdisciplinary nature study. You can use it to supplement your science curriculum, to understand human interactions with ecology, to foster artistic development, or just to pursue a lifelong love of nature.
Yes. We hand draw and color all of the artwork included in the journal, even the stickers. We truly believe in a product for human hands made by human hands.

Mailing
Domestic shipping in the U.S. typically takes about one week, sometimes less. In the E.U. and Canada, shipping can take around two weeks. For other international shipping, please allow up to four weeks.
Yes, we would absolutely love for you to join us all across the globe! If you don't see your location in the drop-down menu, please contact us, as we are still in the process of adding different regions.
Domestic postage anywhere in the United States is $0.80. If you live outside of the US, postage will depend on your location, but we will choose the most economical option for you.
Unfortunately, sometimes this happens. If you've waited longer then the expected shipping time for your region, please contact us and we will mail out another field journal packet at no cost to you.
